November begins

It was a good day.

Visited a friend on Sunday. Had a good time.Spoke to her fish. And ate palak khichdi after a really long time. 

Spoke to a friend this morning. It was nice. 

A quick list of things that I really would like to own if I live past 2020:

1. The white sequinned dress from Zara. In fact a ton of stuff from Zara. I fact I would like to have a really solid wardrobe overhaul where I have a closet full of beautiful sequinny stuff. Colours, sequins, and shimmer. It takes skill, art, great taste to take all this and make it look subdued - and it is possible. My closet will reflect this possibility. 

2. Great stationery. Maybe a lot of stuff from Hobonichi. The Hobonichi stationery has been o my list for a while now. I would like to have that.

3. Paint something in my house. Maybe the ceiling in swirls and roundels of blue, lavender, blush, and dove-gray 

Getting tired now and lots to do to get through the day. This is it for now.

My cousin, who was born sixteen hours before me, got married recently. I am expected to follow her footsteps soon. Thankfully, I have been granted more than sixteen hours to do that. Not the same, all the same - Rang de Basanti, being a Hindu, uniform civil code, and Hostage – in that unrelated sequence

I watched ‘Rang de basanti’. That, however, is not the point. Everyone now wants to go to Delhi and cruise around in jeeps at night. And that too is not the point. I need to say something. That, really, is the point. ‘Rang de…’ is a good movie but frankly, I’ve seen better. I’ve seen ‘Yuva’. It is creditable, though, that the movie could say what it did without using the ‘sage on the stage’ (as we say in Instructional Design) approach. The movie does have a couple of ideas that I have been besotted with for a long time now. One is the life of a story. There is the germ of an idea about men who go to their deaths cheerfully. There is fascination about what could inspire such courage in ordinary people. That story lays inside a diary for a long time. How long? Long enough for history to play itself out and begin the process of repeating itself. A nation goes the ‘Animal Farm’ way – humans out, pigs in. The story lays untouched – fermenting in latent vigor. First Impressions: How to Get Away with Murder (Netflix)

 I love courtroom dramas.  I love non-linear storytelling. I love thrillers. I love tender love stories that embellish such series of grit, grime, and blood. This series delivers on all counts, dips somewhat after a couple of seasons, gets uneven and predictable (when it is less courtroom and more drama) and then finishes strong. The series centers around Annalise Keating who is a fierce, black criminal lawyer who also teaches a class in criminal law (which she calls 'How to Get Away with Murder'). As a teaching methodology, she gets her class to weigh in on her live cases. Part of her strategy also involves picking a handful of promising students and have them work in her 'lab' where they get to help her in strenuous arguments and civil suits, etc. The plot thickens, a murder happens, people get involved, incriminated, incarcerated, and dead.
