My tale of a city

I love Hyderabad. I wonder if it was the weather (which was beautiful), or the happy, happy company (J and Cy), or the fact that I was taking a well-deserved break (never mind what anyone else thinks) – but I love Hyderabad.

I can’t get over how sweet and friendly the people are! And so very helpful! I reached Hyderabad at night and my phone was out of charge. I went to one of the attendants there to ask if there was a pay-phone somewhere and he gave me his mobile phone to make a call. When I reached Hi-Tech city, I generally asked a lady for directions. In response, she got me an auto and asked me if I’d reach okay. She offered to come with me by rick and have her son pick her up from my destination later. I mean, who does that?

I love that city! Very rarely have I come away from a city being so touched. Before all the glorious software that came and lit up the place, there were all these open hearts and sunny smiles. And after so long, I’ve seen a rice-eating populace being so brisk. Otherwise, most areas where people eat rice are just masses of fermented sloth. But people here work, walk, move so quickly. There’s a buzz in the air, and it’s a happy, contented buzz.

I never thought I had it in my heart to soften and cosy up to the idea of another city so much. That city…it’s made me feel.

Or maybe it wasn’t just Hyd. Maybe it was…thanks J, thanks a lot! :-D

Its a delightful city alright. I have so many memories linked to Hyd...Haleem during Eid (arguably the best in the country), Galli cricket where we mastered the straight drive (other shots like the hook or the square cut could be played at one's own peril..if you broke a window with any such shot, aunties armed to the teeth with kitchen armory would come after you). Somehow the newer part of the city doesn't match the old city's charm...places like the Karachi Bakery in Mozamjahi Mkt, or Charminar...that's where the heart of the city always will be.

That said, I love the new road from the airport to Hitech city.

its really a great city. my fav i guess. maybe because we went there during every summer vacations or maybe because i feel the people are very down to earth and live a simple and satisfied life. The new generation though ... scares me a little.

Hy! It's an amazing city for sure. And I am telling you its going to go leagues past Bangalore in the next 10 years. It's an enterprising, kind and accomodating city that makes it stand apart from all the cities in the south.

First Impressions: How to Get Away with Murder (Netflix)

I love courtroom dramas.  I love non-linear storytelling. I love thrillers. I love tender love stories that embellish such series of grit, grime, and blood. This series delivers on all counts, dips somewhat after a couple of seasons, gets uneven and predictable (when it is less courtroom and more drama) and then finishes strong. The series centers around Annalise Keating who is a fierce, black criminal lawyer who also teaches a class in criminal law (which she calls 'How to Get Away with Murder'). As a teaching methodology, she gets her class to weigh in on her live cases. Part of her strategy also involves picking a handful of promising students and have them work in her 'lab' where they get to help her in strenuous arguments and civil suits, etc. The plot thickens, a murder happens, people get involved, incriminated, incarcerated, and dead. I found a couple of characters in this cast to be really unlikeable - Michaela, Laurel, and Bonnie. After the first couple of se

That kind of a day, that kind of a thought

It was Eid and Ekadashi today. Thus far, I have managed to keep the fast for Ekadashi. But we still have 2 hours to go so...let's see. I had this urge to go to a temple. There is a small one near my house. Today it was filled with people singing keertans. So I went to the  Iskcon. I like the temple. It's so big and bustling. It's organised and musical.  But today was very crowded. Usually I go to temples and do a quick pranaam without offering flowers or fruits. But I felt like buying a thali. I got one with some fruits, tulsi leaves and a single marigold flower that lay there like a fully energized petaled sun. There was a long queue and I was already feeling stressed in the pit of my stomach. But the line kept moving and just like that, I had my darshan and I got done.  I came out and thought of getting a flower for the pooja room in my home. I bought a lotus. The florist fluffed out the petals and it looked like a sweet little bird.  I caught an auto back and as is my n

A very bad mood

I have been trying to sleep for a while but have not been able to. I am in a very bad mood. Turns out I am very averse to change. Things are crap.  Deep breaths are not helping. I am feeling very trapped. The anger and irritation is quite intense. Let me take a few moments to just quietly watch myself.  Works
